According to the BBC their at-a-glance facts about India are

  • Economy: Fast-growing economy; large, skilled workforce but widespread poverty
  • Politics: 344m people voted in 2009 election - Congress-led alliance of PM Manmohan Singh won second mandate
  • International: Ongoing dispute with Pakistan over Kashmir region; nuclear weapons state; world's most prolific film industry - Bollywood

It is also one of the most diverse, friendly, and colourful places in the world.

The World Bank predicted that 2010 would see India lead the table of growth amongst nations in 2010, and its strength in areas as diverse as biochemicals to IT is well established.

The trade between the UK and India in 2008 was over £12bn, it will be rise steeply over the next few years. There is enormous potential in India and no shortages of hurdles, but forewarned with some straight forward, simple advice and it should not be a significant hurdle for anyone from the UK.
