You will see the flag everywhere, Indians seem genuinely proud of India and their achievement, although loyal to their state and regional identities. It’s is the worlds largest democracy - there also seem to be elections going on all the time, either being planned, or having just passed.

The seventh largest country in the world, the population is well over 1 billion and allegedly 25% of the worlds under 25’s live in India ... it is an overwhelmingly young country ... there are people everywhere and most of them seem young.

India enjoys a federal system where the 28 states share power with the central ‘Union’ government.

The 28 States and 7 Union Territories exist under a constitution that came into effect on 26th January 1950.

The President of India is the Head of State, while the Prime Minister is the Head of the Government and runs office with the support of the Council of Ministers who form the Cabinet. It is the worlds largest democracy.

The Federal Legislature comprises of the Lok Sabha (House of the People) and the Rajya Sabha (Council of States) forming both the Houses of the Parliament.

The Supreme Court of India is the apex body of the Indian legal system. Under the Supreme court is a system of High Courts and subordinate institutions which will be familiar to those from the UK.
